On Sunday, October 21, the members of the National Junior Honor Society and Northport High School Cheerleading teams woke up bright and early to take part in the annual Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk on Jones Beach. They joined together with hundreds and thousands of others dressed in pink with the same goal: to help raise awareness about Breast Cancer, as well as support funding for research. The walk didn’t commence with an official start; walkers began when they wanted, and at their own pace, however, the majority started in between 8 and 9:00. Encompassing a three-mile round trip along the boardwalk of Jones Beach, the walkers passed stands playing music, handing out water, and selling merchandise along the way. Additionally, right before the starting line, a line of tables and tents were set up that gave away and sold various t-shirts, snacks, and drinks. The proceeds made during the event were donated to the funding of Breast Cancer research. Both groups from NHS will be donating a significant amount of money towards the cause, based on an amount per person. Thank you to all who participated in this amazing cause!
