Art for Parkland
February 15, 2019
This past week, students of NHS came together in solidarity for the victims of the Parkland, Florida tragedy and for other victims around the country. In remembrance of the people who died, students from the art department spent months working on an intricately-made felted flower mural. Each huge and beautiful flower was made by hand through many hours of labor and love. Seventeen flowers were carefully crafted and put together in memory of the Parkland victims. Thank you to Oxana, Mrs. OG, and all the art students for taking their time to create this wonderful and hopeful piece.
At the dedication ceremony at the Northport Library, the choir sang two songs all together, surrounding the entire room with their amazing sound. Afterward, dancers from NHS performed a piece to “Rise Up” by Adele, sparking inspiration through their creative movement.
We also got the opportunity to hear from representatives of March for Our Lives and Moms Demand Action who spoke about advances in gun safety and explained their groups’ missions.
Thank you to all the amazing artists, singers, dancers, performers, and teachers who devoted their time to this amazing project!
