  • The episode opens with a montage of what happened during the summer. Everything is back to normal in Riverdale. No more Black Hood, Griffins, or Gargoyles. It is revealed that the town is going to have their first Independence Parade in 3 years after what happened to Jason Blossom
  • Jug and Betty are reading some of Jug’s work while Veronica and Archie are snuggling in bed.
  • Revealed after what happened in Season 3, Cheryl is still ending up talking with Jason’s carcass
  • The Core 4 start creating a float for Pops for the parade. Cheryl makes a big deal about not truly celebrating Jason’s remembrance and leaves.
  • During a breakfast with the Core 4 (who are talking about camping and college in the near future), Archie gets a call from his dad and collapses.
  • F.P ends up reporting what happened at the house to Mary and Archie
  • Fred Andrews was supposed to be returning home from Cherry Creek, however, he pulled over to the side of the road to help a civilian and was involved in a hit and run
  • Archie and his friends were slowly reminiscing over memories with Fred. Archie can’t handle this and leaves (this is probably from a desire to find the person responsible).
  • Archie has a creepy dream where his Grandpa says, “you need to bring him home.”
  • The Core 4 decide to bring the body back and check in with the police station and the funeral home.
  • Archie was invited to check the body, but since he couldn’t pull himself to do it, Betty and Veronica had to do it.
  • This confirms it’s him.
  • Archie asks Jughead to write his father’s obituary.
  • A guest appearance is made by Luke Perry’s costar, BH 90210 actress Shannen Doherty. She plays the civilian who comes to pay her respects, which leads the Core 4 to a prayer session.
  • Ends up in a dinner in Cherry Creek. Archie discovers that George Austine was the man who killed his father.
  • Archie has a subsequent meltdown and goes to “beat up” George Austine.
  • Archie finds out that George’s son, Jeffery Austine, was responsible.
  • The Core 4 find him. Archie and Veronica share a moment. Archie feels bad about what happened.
  • Decide to bring his body home. F.P wants a police escort
  • Cheryl decides to add Fred into the Independence parade (she doesn’t want Archie to be in the same place she was in when Jason died)
  • There is a nice ceremony, with Josie performing a beautiful rendition of “Amazing Grace.”
  • It’s revealed that Veronica’s father paid for the ceremony
  • Betty has a moment looking at her father’s grave who was the Black Hood
  • Jughead writes an amazing obituary, showing Mrs. Lodge, Mr. Lodge, and Mrs. Cooper in a montage.
  • Has an honorary firework show for Fred
  • Archie has a moment to himself in the garage and ends up crying.
  • The episode ends on a focus of a picture of Archie and Fred.

This episode was used in the series to mention the loss of CW Riverdale actor, Luke Perry. He was mostly remembered for his portrayal of notorious “bad boy” Dylan in BH 90210 and for his role as Fred Andrews. If you want to read more about his passing, click here.
