It’s time to face something that has troubled society for as long as doors have existed. This issue has caused much anxiety and trouble for many. I think this issue is so serious that it needs government intervention. That’s right, I’m talking about holding doors for the people behind you.
Just yesterday, I was looking forward to getting home and finally being able to study for my tests today. As I opened the door leading to the outside, I noticed that someone was approaching behind me. They were pretty far away, but I judged that because they were walking fast if I ended up not holding the door, it would slam on their face. So, I held the door.
I ended up standing there, for what seemed like an eternity, until that person just walked through. I let the door close, just as another person who I did not see entered the doorway. They expected me to hold the door and were not expecting it to come back and hit them.
This gave me a lot of anxiety, both while the event was unfolding and after it. The worst part is that things exactly like I have outlined probably happen millions of times each day. It is clear to me that there needs to be a permanent solution to this door-holding crisis.
Well, what can we do? We need to come up with a standard length where it is acceptable to hold the door. If someone is 1 meter behind you as you approach a door, you should hold the door open for them. If someone is 3 meters behind you, you should use one hand to keep the door open and pass it off to the person behind you. To make sure everyone follows this, there should be a consequence if you do not. Perhaps a fine would be good. Maybe we should consider jail time.
The “Door Issue” is one not to be taken lightly. Share this opinion with friends, family, and anyone you meet. Eventually, this might make it to the president and become an actual law. We all know we need change, so let us go make it happen.
