If you are a fan of Jets football, you may have heard about the starter-turned-backup-turned-starting quarterback, Zach Wilson. Wilson was a second-year quarterback last year for the Jets and gave them a 7 win, 10 loss season. This year, the Jets got Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers, who is a future Hall-of-Famer. But in their first game, four plays into the game against the Buffalo Bills, Rodgers was sacked and tore his achillies, and is out for the rest of the season. Now, Wilson gets back on the field. Surprisingly the Jets won, but then went and lost their next two games.
But, in their fourth game against the Kansas City Chiefs (the team that won the Super Bowl last year), the Jets came close to a win. The first quarter of that game was a bloodbath for the Jets, as Kansas City scored 17 points. But when the Jets got the ball halfway through the second quarter, Wilson threw four great throws in a row and nearly scored a touchdown but had to settle for a three-point field goal, putting points on the board. They then kept the Chiefs from scoring until they scored another field goal to make the score 20-20, but the Chiefs then scored a field goal and ended up winning the game. But the Jets almost beat the defending Super Bowl champs.
This weekend, the fifth week of the NFL season, the Jets went up against the Denver Broncos, who you may recall losing 70-20 against the Miami Dolphins and almost losing to one of the worst teams in the league, the Chicago Bears. The Jets were able to claw out a tough victory, but one where Wilson looked good. Aaron Rodgers has said that he is on Wilson’s side and is believing in him. The Jets have been sticking with Wilson and he is trying to improve as the season goes on.
