On a gloomy day, the Northport High School Homecoming Game was scheduled to play. Rain was on the forecast, but no weather was going to stop the game from playing. Luckily, the weather cleared up just in time for a great Northport performance.
The Tigers crushed their opponent, Copiague, putting up 47 points while only giving up 7. The Tigers got off to an early start scoring 27 points in the first quarter. Although Northport cooled off for the rest of the game, they still managed to score 20 points in the next 3 quarters, which was more than enough to take down Copiague. Northport improved to a 4 and 3 record, while Copiague remained winless.
At the end of the half, the Northport Tigers Marching Band, Flagline, and Tigerettes took the field and performed their incredible show. The show opened with “Flight Of The Condor” By John Higgins and then “Winds Of Sonora” By Jay Dawson following. Finally, the “Mangione Opener” By Chuck Mangione closed the show. In between “Winds of Sonora” and “Mangione Opener,” the band presented the “Band Dance,” where the band performs a dance that they have been practicing since August at band camp.
The drumline of the band performed a well-known solo, “Conga,” while the band put down their instruments and danced. As the drumline performed the solo, they did impeccable tricks such as throwing sticks and doing the wave. The most incredible detail was when the cymbals covered the snare drums’ faces while they did an extremely fast and difficult solo, blindfolded.
The homecoming game was a great experience for Northport fans. They saw an amazing performance from both the football team and Marching Band. It is safe to say that everyone was satisfied and had a great time.
