Last week, on November 7th and 9th, the Northport High School’s Powdered Wigs had their first production of the 2023-2024 school year, Shakespeare’s Dead Dudes and Dames. It was their second-ever fall drama at Northport High School.
Directed by Mrs. Salisbury, the head of the Powdered Wigs and a musical theater teacher here at Northport High School, Shakespeare’s Dead Dudes and Dames was a more modern take on some of William Shakespeare’s most famous characters. The show had an outstanding cast, hilarious characters, and an incredibly fun plot.
The casting was absolutely amazing. The gender-bending was a great addition to the uniqueness of this show. These cast members brought the characters to life (no pun intended!) and told their stories in a way that no other person would have been able to do. They really gave the show a spark that lit up the whole stage.
The characters were amazing, thanks to the cast members who played each one, but the writing and the dialogue were hilarious. The show’s writer, David Overton, is an amazing playwright with a very creative outlook when writing his shows. This play had a great plot with a great storyline.
The show had two acts, which were both two different plays. The first act was “Dudes,” a show about Shakespeare’s most famous male characters, and the second act was “Dames,” about his most famous female characters. Both shows were different, however, they did have similar plots, with them both being about how characters from different shows all meet up after death and get cast in a new play about Shakespeare.
Shakespeare’s Dead Dudes and Dames was a different type of show for the Powdered Wigs that gave the actors, crew, and directors all a challenge. However, it truly was an entertaining, remarkable, and memorable show for Northport High School.
