The anti-coat wearers always seem to be the first to say how cold it is, yet the last thing they’ll do is put on or bring a coat. After talking to some peers, it has been found that the reason for not bringing a coat to school is it is an inconvenience and it is unnecessary.
Many students do not use their locker for numerous reasons such as it’s not near any classes, there is no time to go, and some don’t even know where their locker is. With this issue, bringing a coat to school means having another thing to carry around in addition to our already heavy backpacks.
Since it is rare to go outside during the school day and most classrooms have heat, it doesn’t seem necessary to even take one. The only time it seems to be needed is when entering and exiting the school. Overall, the reason for ditching the coat at school is for practicality.
The population of those who do decide to bring their coats prioritize warmth in the cold weather. Those who bring coats don’t typically use their lockers either, but they don’t mind carrying it around or wearing them. The locker issue is not a problem because carrying a coat around ensures the convenience of always having it if they are to get cold.
Coats are easy to hang over the backs of chairs and that guarantees that they can be taken off or put on at any time depending on the temperature of the classroom. Also, having a coat allows the possibility of being able to eat lunch outside or even being warm while waiting for the bus, a ride, or when walking home. Bringing a coat to school is worth staying warm rather than the possible impracticality of carrying it around (which doesn’t seem to be all that bad).
To conclude, it seems that bringing coats to school makes sense to some people depending on how easily they get cold. The decision has to do more with personal preferences than anything else and is mostly about what people feel comfortable with.
