Bad posture is one of the biggest problems that students face. Sitting like a “C” has never made life easier. We have an entire generation of people stooped over due to computers being used in every facet of life. But how does this bad habit influence people, and is it really such a big deal?
Bad posture can lead to different health issues, including back and neck pain. According to Better Health Channel, “The complications of poor posture include back pain, spinal dysfunction, joint degeneration, rounded shoulders, and a potbelly”.
Also standing or sitting with your shoulders hunched shows a lack of confidence and this posture tells the world you may spend too much time on your phone.
Personally, I believe (and I’m sure others agree) that bad posture is one of the biggest “icks” ever. “Ick” is defined as, “you THINK you like them but then you suddenly catch ‘The Ick’. From then on you can’t look at the person in the same way.” Of course, this definition was from a very reliable source: Urban Dictionary.
Ways that people obtain bad posture are through slouching and inactivity. If you put more effort into standing up straight then you will get better posture. You can even ask your friends and family to remind you to stand up straight, shoulders back and down when you start to slouch.
There are even things you can wear to improve your posture. “Posture correctors can alleviate pain and discomfort, and even increase energy levels and activity” according to Consumer Reports.
Overall, bad posture is most prominent in Gen Z. You could even see for yourself if you look around at the people in your school, some of your classmates have bad posture. Now that you have this information on bad posture, you can find ways to fix it in your everyday life.
