On March 24th of 2023, Fall Out Boy dropped the absolute masterpiece that is So Much (for) Stardust. It’s an 8/10 album that absolutely changed me for the better. My favorite songs are “Love from the Other Side,” “Heartbreak Feels So Good,” “Hold Me Like a Grudge” and, of course, “So Much (for) Stardust.” My least favorite song on the album is “Baby Annihilation.”
Here are some quick facts about the album:
- So Much (for) Stardust is Fall Out Boy’s first album after their 5 year hiatus.
- The album is a pop-rock/pop-punk mix
- With 13 songs, this album is long enough to put on in the hallway and finish as class ends (44:15)
- The album is a mix of their older stuff and newer styles
- There’s an Ethan Hawke cameo from a 1994 interview in “Reality Bites”
The first time I listened to this album when it came out, I didn’t think much of it. It came out on a Friday as most albums do, four days after my birthday in 8th grade. I was thinking more about when I got to talk to my friends about the music I was listening to, but it still wasn’t that important to me. During the rest of that year, I listened to it a couple more times but never paid attention to the full thing.
Now, this album is one of my favorites. In about November of 9th grade, I listened to the full thing alone in my room. I heard the lyrics and emotions and the different genres and the stories conveyed during the songs. The album has 1 or 2 songs that are not as good but the good ones always bring it back. The bad songs are good and the good songs are great. This album helped me to get through the bad end of a friendship and midterms. So, if you like Fall Out Boy or late 2000’s pop-punk, this is a fun album to check out!
