I know everyone has had a bad school photo. Maybe you were blinking, maybe it was a bad hair day, maybe you just looked whack. And I’m sure you know the discomfort of someone with a yearbook flipping onto your page.
Picture day, in a time before the iPhone, was an institution in schools. Before the 21st century, people didn’t have many photos of themselves. It was special to have a professional photo of yourself every school year.
But now picture day is stressful. You probably have a billion photos of yourself, taken by your parents, your friends, or yourself. And many people have resigned themselves to the fact that their school picture is just going to be plain bad. Not to mention many parents don’t want to overpay for photo packages.
Maybe I don’t want anyone with a yearbook to have a (really ugly) photo of me.
I understand that senior photos are important, but does every underclassman need to go through the embarrassing ordeal of being photographed?
I think there could be a form one could fill out to not be photographed. I feel that this change would be more humane for all of us who don’t want pictures.
