I’m sure we all remember reading E.B White’s classic novel “Charlotte’s Web”. The classic story following Wilbur the Pig and Charlotte the Spider has remained in the hearts of children around the world. This heartwarming tale has a theatrical adaptation which was performed at NHS last week.
After watching the historic performance of Dead Dudes and Dames last fall, I was excited to see this year’s Powdered Wigs production. It did not disappoint.
Some criticized the choice of play as “childish”, especially compared to the more PG-13 productions of the past. However, I found the choice appropriate because it brought in crowds of children. Having a family-friendly play for a change was sweet; The audience of elementary schoolers sat surprisingly still, enraptured by the play.
The play was great. The crew executed the effects without a hitch, the actors kept good energy throughout the show, and it was thoroughly entertaining, even for someone a bit older than the target audience. Charlotte’s eventual death (spoiler alert) was surprisingly emotional. Each performer gave their character a unique flavor by using unique voices and mannerisms. The casting was so well done. It was a well-rehearsed and well-executed night of theater.
Bravo to the cast which included:
Cara Scamardella, Alex Blumlo, Brooke Amorosa, Rayna Feuer, Lily Forman, Noelle Oppedisano, Jacob Karp, Emerson Rina, Kayla Bunocore, Marilyn Rodriguez, Sage Konte, Mason Ramirez, Cate Egan, Cara Cerbo, Gabby Rubino, Jenna Martino, August Frischman, Presley Brill, Annabelle Salaverry, and Emma Torres.
And, a special thanks to the crew for creating such an amazing atmosphere throughout the show and to director Mrs. Salisbury.
