Ask anyone and they can tell you their favorite Thanksgiving dish. Regardless of how you feel about the holiday, it’s nice to have a solid meal with people that you (mostly) love. From buttery turkey to rich gravy there are many flavors to enjoy each November.
While we’re talking about Thanksgiving, what’s your favorite Thanksgiving dessert? Can’t think of any? You’re not the only one.
I’m sure some people have had some amazing pecan pie or peach cobbler, but I’d argue that Thanksgiving isn’t about the desserts. It feels almost instinctual to have something sweet after a good meal, yet I find myself too full to actually enjoy anything after dinner.
Another issue is baking from scratch. I find people have less and less time to cook for Thanksgiving, let alone bake another course that most people will be too stuffed to try. So what can we do for those who have a sweet tooth?
One good idea would be to buy a roll of cookie dough and let the kids roll it. Your picky little cousin will be glad to have something he likes. Plus, Pillsbury now has a cookie dough which can be eaten raw. All you have to do is pop them in the oven and dessert is served. It’s a cute bonding activity- minus the salmonella.
Another good idea would be to get a bag of mini candies, like what you’d have on Halloween. You might be able to score some on clearance once spooky season is over. The mixed packs will have everyone’s favorites plus having individually wrapped candy will allow people to have just enough without getting sick.
Last, if you still want Great Aunt Margie’s pumpkin pie, you can eat your dinner early in the day and then have a coffee hour. If you can deal with your family for a few hours of digestion, you can have your cake and eat it too.
