“Bees pollinate one-third of the food we eat. From apples and squash to buckwheat and coffee, bees are responsible for pollinating most of the fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts that are essential to our diets. Honeybees in particular play a huge role in agriculture, contributing over $15 billion to the value of US crop production.” –The Bee Conservancy.
Even though some people are afraid of bees, the species needs to be protected. Bees play an important role in nature and human survival. Pollination allows for all the diverse crops that make up the modern human diet.
“Bees are part of the biodiversity on which we all depend for our survival. They provide high-quality food—honey, royal jelly and pollen — and other products such as beeswax, propolis, and honey bee venom.”-UNEP
The bumblebee, in particular, is a species of bee that is endangered. Bees often die from habitat destruction, climate change, and pesticides.
If you need to remove a beehive, you can use smoke. Smoke causes bees to think their hive is on fire, they prepare to leave the hive by eating honey for more energy. This method is safest for the bees, maintaining local biodiversity.
Bees are actually capable of showing affection to people. They can recognize human faces, and build trust with their human friends.
Personally, I find bees very peaceful and interesting creatures. They seem to represent the balance of nature, between danger and beauty. While they have the ability to sting, they only do so when they feel threatened, or in danger.
