We’re officially half-way through the decade! This year, we’re hoping to see more changes and experimentation when it comes to fashion and people’s wardrobes.
I predict that this year, we will be seeing styles combined, rather than groupings of specific categories based on niche styles. If this does in fact occur, it will allow for more exploration and discovery when it comes to personal style and more expression through clothing.
Over the past few years, we’ve seen shorter, more fitted clothing move out and I believe this year will be all about large and loose silhouettes. Specifically, I think we will be seeing long, oversized jackets including trench coats, denim and bomber jackets. Looser fitting pants will probably be returning this year as they have been gaining more and more popularity over the course of the decade.
For a while, mini bags were gaining traction but due to their impracticality, I have a feeling bigger, roomier bags will successfully enter and be well received by the fashion world.
This year, I think we’ll be seeing more boho pieces in day to day looks. The boho trend had a moment in the mid-2010s but I think this will be much different from the looks that dominated Coachella and surged during that period. I think this version of boho will be more flowy, loose fitting clothing including blousy shirts, wide-legged pants, and long, billowy skirts.
On the other side of the spectrum, I think another trend we will be seeing is a more futuristic approach to fashion. This will include a lot of metallic fabrics and probably unusual statement pieces or accessories.
I predict that the polka dot pattern will become popular this year, but specifically a micro polka-dot. Polka-dots have already been appearing, as many brands are using this timeless pattern and many celebrities are incorporating them into their everyday and red carpet looks.
I also have a feeling that denim on denim will be a popular trend this year and we will be seeing jeans paired with a matching jean jacket or denim shirt. On the contrary to last year, I think paler and neutral colors will be more popular this year rather than the surge of bold, bright colors.
Overall, I think 2025 will be a really interesting and exciting year for fashion and I am excited to see what new trends will emerge and which past trends will come back!
