Valentine’s Day is today and yet a holiday filled with beating red hearts and the presence of love just doesn’t feel right. Maybe this doesn’t apply to the people with valentines, but for the majority of the population, there’s definitely a void.
Remember in elementary school when you would spend the whole day giving every person in your class those Walmart heart shaped candies with little messages on them like “be mine”, “hug me”, or even “kiss me”? Looking back, those were very bold messages for 3rd graders to be handing out. But in our defense, we ate the candy before even reading what the text said.
I would look forward to that day every single year as the only school work we did was coloring pages and kahoots. Not just for the lack of school work, but it felt so nice when you had all of these little valentines from various different people. Even if every card said the same thing “Happy Valentine’s day! To _____, Love _____.” you still felt appreciated.
It’s sad really, one day we just stopped. We stopped being friends with everybody, we stopped receiving those little valentines, but we also stopped giving them.
I say why don’t we bring back those sweetheart valentines? Not to your entire class but possibly just a favorite friend or two, a parent, or a cringy gift to a significant other just to show them you care. It seems little but if I got one of those again, I’d be ecstatic.
Anyway, Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone and let’s bring back sweetheart valentines to make simple yet special memories like we once did!
