On the east coast of New York, Hofstra University will be hosting their 63rd annual News-day. News-day at Hofstra is essentially a multi-day event where several bands from across Long-Island come together and perform their few shows. Since 1963, Hofstra has had thousands of bands come by each year to perform. Back in the day it was a competition between every band and there were judges in the front of the football field rating
and grading scores. But now it has become an annual festival for all bands to come together, perform (as if it were a competition), and show the country what they’ve got. To be a part of this community and event you need passion. Passion to stride to be the best you can and never give up. Perseverance is key within this community. Without it you’re lost. But the warm welcoming arms of the News-day festival encourages all far and wide to watch their town, high school, college, and so on perform even if you don’t have someone special to you playing in the bands! And our very own Northport Marching Band, Flag Line, and Tigerettes has been a top performing band since the dawn of this whole event. We’re crazy good!!! And this year is going to be seen as the best year yet!!
Music has been around for millennial’s. Even without us knowing it, music (sound) is everywhere, and it always has been. So these young people are implementing that concept of sound into beautiful music for all of you to hear. It essentially brings families, communities, students, and many others to come together to celebrate music at its heart.
The date for this event is currently from the 21st- 23rd of October
, 2025. And tickets are available now so get them while you can!! Each year it is usually very cold or a little chilly, so it is suggested that you dress appropriately for that weather occurrence. And it is usually a decently long event each day. The college hosts around 50 bands over the course of the 3 days. Each band carries a different perspective to be the best and show off their talents. Some bands are dressed extremely formally, while others are in Hawaiian outfits with pool noodles (it’s really funny). But they all have one thing in common, and that is the love to play music for the world.
