I know I said this last year, and I definitely stood by it then, but The Northport Varsity Girls Tennis Team this year is seriously the best team we’ve had yet! Every single girl on the team practiced excessively during the off season which not only adds to our ability as a team, but also places every other team in the county below us. Not one other team can say that all of their girls kept their passion for the sport and continued to improve like we did.
We have such an amazing team curated this year and our 11-2 score is a testament to that. Here’s a run down of the team lineup:
Senior Captain Avery Shin has been ruthless this year! Filling spots such as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd singles, as well as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd doubles, she’s killing it!
Ava Hagedorn and Lilah Leogrande, although both freshmen, are not to be overlooked. The two have filled spots in 1st and 2nd singles as well as 1st and 2nd doubles. Together and apart, those two are almost impossible to beat!
Junior Sara Rayola has played 1st, 2nd, and 3rd singles as well as all doubles spots this year. Even with a rocky start to the year, she is now playing better than ever!
Senior Captains Marley Root, Nora Segur, and Sofia Zaffer have all played various spots in doubles and singles throughout the season and are three tough girls to beat with their unique strategy and unbreakable enthusiasm!
Julia Desena (sophomore) and Ellie O’Neal (sophomore) have both played positions in 2nd and 3rd singles, as well as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd doubles and have both executed perfect performances and continue to do so!
Players such as Mariana Aroniadas (Junior), Ceci DeYoung (sophomore), and Ava Lewis (Junior) have all climbed their way up the lineup in various positions and the three have not failed to show how determined and dedicated they are to continue their spots in the lineup as we advance through the season.
Although a constantly changing lineup can sometimes confuse and alter the results of our performance as a team, because of the determination of each and every player we have managed to become the #3 team in the county this season! We have our first playoff match this Thursday. We will need all of the encouragement and support we can get to keep fighting!
