When a book’s subrights gets sold to a production company, it’s only a matter of time before they come out into theater. In this list I’ll break down the top movies that are coming out this winter.

1. Mary Queen of Scots – Based on the book Queen of Scots by John Guy, this story takes place in the late 1500’s to the early 1600’s and is about the adventures Mary, Queen of Scots takes to reach her goal and become queen. In theaters: November 2, 2018

2. Mary Poppins Returns– From the classic book from P. L. Travers, Mary Poppins returns again to bring a magical movie that touches everybody’s heart. In this exciting sequel to the first movie; Mary Poppins returns again to the Banks house to help bring the new generation of Banks children laughter and joy in the dark and trying times. 3. The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas delivers a groundbreaking story about race equality. This is a story you’ll want to read before watching the movie. Not because the movie will be too confusing, but because when you finally watch the movie you can feel the impact of the words you read applied to the big screen. Starr is a young girl who switches lives either when she’s in her black neighborhood or her mostly white high school. One day she witnesses the fatal

4. Beautiful Boy – In this heartbreaking adaptation of the book by Garrard Conley brings a story about a boy named Nicolas Sheff who seems to have it all — but when his usage of meth becomes an addiction his father will do anything to help his son even if he doesn’t want help. 5. Boy Erased – To continue with the heartbreaking movies, Boy Erased by Garrard Conley is a memoir about how Garrard was outed to his parents at nineteen-years-old. His parents give him a choice of leaving everyone and thing he loves, or join a program that promises to get rid of his homosexuality. In theaters: November 2 2018

6. First Man – For all the space lovers out there this movies for you. Based on the phenomenon book by James Hansen, you get an in-depth view of what life was like for Neil Armstrong after he returned from the moon. In theaters: October 12 2018

7. The Girl in the Spider’s Web – The next movie in the thrilling series of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson comes another story about Lisbeth Salander. In this story Lisbeth and Blomkvist are back at it trying to find a secret that is vital to the United States. High stakes meet government corruption in this novel. In theaters: November 9th 2018

8. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms – In this retelling of E.T.A Hoffmann’s traditional novel, all Clara wants is a key to the box, but when she finds it she immediately loses it in a magical and unknown world. Once Clara decides to make the plunge to get the key, she ends up in a new world and gets caught in the events that are happening there. In theaters November 2 2018

9. Mortal Engines – Sci- Fi never seemed so interesting until this book by Philip Reeve. Tom is a twenty-something Londoner who has only ever lived inside his traveling hometown, instead of minding his business Tom gets in the way of the masked Hester’s attempt to kill Thaddeus Valentine, a man she blames for her mother’s murder. When they both get thrown out of the city they have to learn to work together and uncover the secrets Valentine is trying to hide. In theaters: December 19 2018

10. Alita: Battle Angel – The post-apocalyptic manga by Yukito Kishiro has been floating around Hollywood for ages, but now it’s got a home at 20th century Fox. Cybermedic Daisuke finds a female head and chest in suspended animation. Once he puts her back together he names her Alita after his dead cat. When woken Alita doesn’t remember anything except martial arts, and it isn’t until she meets an old face that she gets a glimpse into what her old life was. As she starts to fight back against her enemies she is forced to remember her old life, for worse or for better. In theaters: December 21
