Are you a procrastinator in your first AP class? Are you NOT having a good time? Well, lucky for you, I’ve been through it too! Here’s what not to do!

First of all, start getting your act together. You’re in an AP class, and it’s time to realize that this class is no joke, you can’t get an easy grade. You need to put effort in and stay with the game. If you don’t understand something, ask your teacher. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Now, onto the actual work. I’ve left homework up until pretty much 8 in the evening most days. Sometimes I’d even do it the next morning during class. This is a big no-no. Even done once, it can form a bad habit. One thing you can do, is once you get home, try doing your homework as soon as possible. Eventually, you will see you have all the free time you need towards the other half of the day.

Okay, now how does a procrastinator follow through with advice? Well, you try every rule in the book. First, set a bunch of alarms to remind you to do your homework. When you go to do it, leave all distractions away, (that means your phone!) or even give them to your parent for safe keeping. A library is preferred, because you will be in a working environment. Then, if you are at home, do not do your homework in your room, especially in bed, it will NOT help you whatsoever. Then, start with the AP homework, and get it out of your way first. After you’re finished, have a parent or friend look over your work. Reinforcement can drive motivation and your will to live. If you’re lacking behind understanding wise- it isn’t shameful to get a tutor, these classes move quick. All this being said, you can find yourself slowly digging yourself out of that hole you’ve made. Stress, frustration, and sleepless nights will fade away!
