On November 29th, Spotify released their much-anticipated annual Spotify Wrapped. Spotify users worldwide checked their phones to see who was their top artist, what song they streamed the most that year, and how many minutes they streamed their favorite songs during 2023.
You’ve probably seen students posting their most listened songs on their Instagram or maybe even comparing their top artists in the hallways, but Spotify didn’t only release personal statistics. This year’s Spotify Wrapped also looked at listening statistics across the U.S. and the globe!
Let’s take a look at the #1 spots in the global trends for this year’s Spotify Wrapped.
#1 Artist- Taylor Swift
Yep, you probably guessed it! Taylor Swift is the #1 streamed artist on Spotify this year. With her chart-topping 10 albums, record-breaking tour, millions of fans, and new re-recorded older albums of hers, she gained the #1 spot on the charts, surpassing The Weeknd, who was #1 earlier this year until he placed at #2 recently.
#1 Song (globally)- “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus
We’ve all heard this song. “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus took the #1 spot for the most streamed song in the world, which makes sense because it’s always stuck in someone’s head! This song is all over the radio, social media, and music streaming services, I’m sure you’ve found yourself singing or humming this song more than once.
#1 Song (United States)- “Die For You” by The Weeknd
Another hit, this song made it to the #1 spot in the US with over 600 million plays. The Weeknd holds the #2 spot for most streamed artist on Spotify, however, he held the #1 spot for over half the year until he was beaten by Taylor Swift. His songs have normally held high spots on the charts, nationwide and globally.
#1 Album- Un Verano Sin Ti by Bad Bunny
With Taylor Swift’s Midnights coming in second and SZA’s SOS coming in third, Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny’s album from 2022, Un Verano Sin Ti, wins the #1 spot on Spotify for the most listened-to album. Bad Bunny has one of the highest amounts of Top 10 Chart hits, 55 of his songs have been on the Top 10 chart for worldwide streams.
Spotify Wrapped 2023 was a great showing of this year’s musical hits and differences from other years past. We got to know more artists better and see and hear different aspects of music globally and nationwide. We also got to see how our individual music taste has evolved this year (or even if yours hasn’t changed!).
