Sage Konte is a bright and friendly freshman at Northport High School. They’re best known for their amazing theater performances, fun personality, and being a friend to everyone.
With this comes plenty of pressure and some drama. On this, Sage remarked “Honestly, a lot of people have drama and it’s probably one of the worst parts of life. And sometimes I just try to deal with it, try to move on, and try to get it resolved so that I can have a normal life.”
Sage Konte has always wanted to have a positive impact on the world, whether this be through social media or community projects. Many people would remark on the strong sense of community in Northport and Sage is a prime example of this. Since coming to the high school, Sage has “made a lot of new friends… and I’ve done a lot of community service. I think I’ve been in the newspaper about six or seven times. And then, you know, it’s just great to be involved in the community like this because when you live in a small town you get to know everybody.”
Sage also has their sights set on the world, highlighting equity as one of their most important principles. “I want to be a world changer. I want to make it more equal, more, mostly equity, not equality because you know the difference.”
They also are known for being a thespian. On theater, Sage says “Theater is amazing. I’ve loved to sing since I was two years old and my grandma says in diapers, but I don’t believe her. But I love doing theater. I love making friends. I love being able to perform on a stage.” As someone who has only seen glimpses of their talents, I would say they’re certainly one to watch come musical season.
Last, I asked Sage to give their best advice to the student body. They told me to “be kind to everyone, be respectful to everyone. You have your gifts, they have theirs. Let other people shine. And if you’re not shining yet, that’s okay, because you’ll definitely shine soon.”
I’m glad I got to interview someone I consider both a pillar in the NHS community and a friend. A special thanks to Sage for sitting down with me and giving me their perspective.
