Girls Lacrosse
The girls lacrosse team placed third in their bracket, with a record of 13-1-0. They took down Sachem North, sending them into the semi-finals. Last week they headed to Huntington to play in the semi-finals. Huntington is the second seed who they defeated during the regular season 7-6. Sadly, Northport’s season came to an end when they lost 8-7 in double overtime in the semi-finals.
Over the years, many girls have achieved great feats, one being Kate Atkinson’s (Senior Captain) 300 points total. Riley Cash (Junior) has already scored 200 total points and Kaleigh “KK” Howard (Senior Captain) has a grand total of 100. This season, Northport’s attack set the tone with Kate Atkinson totalling 80 points (43 goals and 37 assists), Riley Cash with 101 (67 goals and 34 assists), and KK Howard with 72 points (47 goals and 25 assists). Ava Demarco, Sophia Mele, Megan Florio, and Cassidy Ferrara were also key offensive threats. Although their season ended short, their accomplishments will not go unrecognized. Not only did Northport’s offense shine, but their defense was exceptional, keeping most teams to under 10 goals a game.
Boys Lacrosse
The boys lacrosse team placed first in their bracket, with an undefeated season of 14-0-0. They beat William Floyd, sending them into the semi-finals vs. Half Hollow Hills. Hills is the fourth seed who the boys beat in the regular season by three. Last week, they beat Hills 14-6, a major win to send them into the county championship on Saturday vs. Sachem North. Sadly, their season ended as they lost in the County Championship.
Although their season was cut short, many athletes did an amazing job including, Kevin Howard, a freshman goalie made his 100th save this season and Gavin O’Brien who has totaled 96 points so far this season, with 66 assists and 30 goals. Some other key players include Greyson Cabrera who has 55 goals and 30 assists and Luke Loiacono who totaled 61 points. Northport’s whole offense is a threat. Adding Ryder Maag to the mix this year really helped them succeed with 65 points from him alone. Shamus Burke, another key offensive player, had 35 goals and 39 assists.
Overall, both boys and girls lacrosse had great seasons with near perfect records; Go Tigers!
