On Sunday, February 8th, the Seahawks and Patriots faced off in Super Bowl 60. Both teams endured incredible seasons and fought hard to make it to the end. Only one team could win it all and hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy, and that team was the Seattle Seahawks.
For most of the game, it was a blowout, as the Seahawks defeated the Patriots 29–13. For the first three quarters, the Seattle defense pitched a shutout, leading 12–0 entering the fourth.
Having one of the best games of his career, Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker carried the ball 27 times for 135 yards and also received the ball twice for 26 yards. With his incredible performance, Walker earned the title of Super Bowl MVP, becoming the first running back to win the award since Terrell Davis did so for the Broncos in 1998.
As for Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, his story does not go unnoticed. After being selected with the number three overall pick by the New York Jets in 2018, Darnold spent three years in New York before bouncing around the league—from Carolina to San Francisco and then to Minnesota, where he led a 14-win season. Despite that success, the Vikings let him walk in free agency, allowing the Seahawks to pick him up. Seattle knew they had their guy; after winning 14 regular-season games, Darnold has won his team a championship and finally achieved a redemption story for the whole world to see.
On the other side, the Patriots were beaten, but the loss doesn’t take away from their great season. Like the Seahawks, the Patriots won 14 games. Second-year quarterback Drake Maye had a stellar season and even finished in second place for MVP voting. The Patriots weren’t expected to be contenders this year with such a young roster, but they defied the odds and excelled in big moments. With an average age of around 26, New England will be a dangerous team to play in the future.
Fans will have to wait seven more months to see regular-season football again. As the off-season ensues, players will work harder than ever to prepare for the upcoming season.
